Edmond was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (nee Bibbey), his parents, Adrien Yves and Paulette Armande Le Gars (Bergot), his sisters Yvette (Bob) Brunelle, Paulette (George) Duey, Janine (Roy) Yorke, and his brother, Adrien Le Gars.
He is survived by his children, Edmond (Jan), Suzanne (Jack), and Monique (Darcy); 10 grandchildren, Simone, Noel, Armand, Dee, Zavier, Robert, Heather, Brittany, Madison, and Elliot; 13 great-grandchildren, Thomas, Calla, Gordon, Nora, Leon, Turner, Loïc, Deker, Henri, Audrey, Ben, Arlington, and Monarch; Brother in law, Frank Bibbey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on January 8, 1934, and raised in Saskatoon. He began his teaching career at Vanscoy in a one-room school. Mom and Dad married in 1957 in Saskatoon where they raised their children, Edmond, Suzanne, and Monique.
His teaching career spanned thirty years with contracts in Nipawin and Edmonton before returning to Saskatoon. He continued teaching at Mount Royal Collegiate. In 1964, as a Reserve Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy, he took the family to Accra, Ghana, West Africa. As a member of a Commonwealth Training Team, he taught at the Ghanaian Military Academy. Upon his return to Canada, Dad taught at Holy Cross High School and then became Assistant Principal at the new E.D. Feehan High School. He spent the rest of his career with Saskatoon Catholic Schools.
Dad loved to have adventures, spending time at the lake, driving horses, and travelling. He was especially fond of their visits to Scottsdale in winter. Those who knew him could always count on him to put an interesting spin on everyday occurrences. He was great storyteller and loved to take a leading role in any event.
Dad loved his family and most of all he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His bright blue eyes would light up when he spoke of them and he was fortunate to spend a great deal of time with them. Making up games, earning Skittles or peppermints, and telling stories are favourite memories.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Parish, 114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, on March 1, 2025 at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan in Ed’s memory.
