Surrounded by family, Edna Weninger passed away peacefully at RUH. Edna was born on the family farm near Bruno, SK. She was the third of seven children born to Henry and Theresia (Koffing) Greuel. She went to Kildrum School, St. Ursuline’s Academy (Bruno) and then Normal School in Regina. She taught at schools in Sinnett, Cudworth, Saskatoon, South Allan, and Lanigan. In 1952, Edna married Emil Weninger and they celebrated almost 60 years together living at Bradwell, Saskatoon, Lanigan, and then Columbian Manor in Saskatoon. While they lived at Bradwell they welcomed Theresa (Keith McHugh), MaryEllen (Don McInnes), Norma (Kelly Yorga), and John (Myrna Hall). While in Lanigan they added Jim (Edwina Keller) and Donna (Doug Brown) to their family. Mom was a caring person who loved God, her family, her friends, and her home. She passionately loved gardening and hosting family for meals. She did beautiful precise hand quilting and read the paper daily. She enjoyed playing cards, in particular bridge, which she played with focus, experience, and expertise. She was predeceased by her husband Emil, parents Henry and Theresia, grandson David Weninger, sister Helen Koob, brother Ben Greuel, grandson-in-law, Gary McKerricher, and brothers-in-law Arnold Koob, Ed Boehm, and George Steckler. Edna is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren: Patrick (Tara) and Marissa McHugh (JP Asselin); Leah McInnes, Lana (Mike Popowich), and Sheena McInnes; Jeffrey Yorga (Kristen Wurth), Jillian Yorga (Kent Borkowsky), and Jessica Yorga (Graham Noseworthy); Jennifer (Duane Larre), Danny Weninger, Lisa (Evan Johnson), and Julie Weninger (Mark Sautner); Alyssa Weninger, Megan (Adam Pegg), and Edward (Janessa) Weninger; Janaya Brown and Kaylyn Brown; 17 great-grandchildren: Maya, Lilia, and Merrick McHugh, Charles-Joseph Asselin; Oliver and Olivia McKerricher; Lucia, Nate, and Henrik Borkowsky, Ainsley Noseworthy; Beckett, Kylee, and Tori Larre, Aubrey, Scottie, and Mercer Johnson, and Elayna Sautner; her siblings Marie Dyer, Alice Boehm, Leander (Bernadette) Greuel, Florence Steckler, her sisters-in-law Elsie Greuel, Ida Zerr, Lillian Boechler, brother-in-law, Richard Kornelsen, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. A Vigil for Edna will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Emile April at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017. Both services will be at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (1738 Quebec Ave #26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9) or the Knights of Columbus Blackstrap Youth Camp.
