Gen Schulte, age 87 went peacefully at home, to be with her Lord. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Clarence; parents, Nicholas and Agnes (Koenig) Schmitz; brothers, Leonard, Vincent, Norbert and Clarence; and sister, Bernice. Gen was born the fifth of eight children. She choose to follow her deeply held religious beliefs by becoming a postulant in Grade 12 at St. Ursula’s Academy and remained there as Sister Hildegarde. In 1948, she was sent to Moose Jaw to attend a Teachers College and one year later she began her teaching career in Humboldt at St. Augustine School. There is nothing Gen wanted more in life then to be a Mom, which is why she left the religious life as a sister. She married Clarence on August 6, 1956 in Englefeld. While raising three children she returned to teaching in the Saskatoon Catholic School system. In the spring of 1974, she received her Bachelor of Education Degree which was achieved by teaching part-time and attending the U of S over a two year period. Gen ended her teaching career as Religion Consultant for the Catholic Board of Education. Gen and Clarence enjoyed the hot sun which led to a new career as snowbirds, lasting 19 years. Gen was involved with St. Philip Church, CWL, Samaritan Place, Red Hatters and facilitating Christian ministries in the Saskatoon hospitals. Family and friends were always important to Gen. She always enjoyed arranging gatherings and her door was always open. The Vigil for Gen will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
