Senator PeeAce is a Residential and Day School Survivor and son of Gilbert PeeAce a Veteran from the Yellow Quill First Nation formerly known as Nut Lake.
Senator PeeAce spent time in labor jobs with forestry in the traditional territory of Yellow Quill and was also in the oil industry. He also interpreted for the old Chiefs and Councilors prior to becoming a Councilor himself. His first term as Councilor began in 1973 to 1977 and would then become Chief of Yellow Quill in 1983. He was the District Representative for Saskatoon District and served as FSIN Vice-Chief from 1988 to 1991.
Senator PeeAce was very hands on when it came to Treaty Land Entitlement and vividly recollects the meetings and negotiations from the 1980’s onwards to the day the TLE Framework was signed in September of 1992. As a result, his integral work provided 25 First Nations in Saskatchewan with settlement of outstanding claims.
In the 1990’s, Senator PeeAce helped as a member to the Yellow Quill drum Group called Northern Eagle and was prominent figure in the Pow Wow and Rodeo circles. He aided in starting the Saskatchewan Indian Rodeo Circuit. These have continued to be favorite hobbies along with his favorite pastime golf.
He was appointed as Senator of Saskatoon Tribal Council in 2000 to represent STC on FSIN Senate for which he continued to be active. He brought much knowledge and wisdom to the STC Governance House table and to the Dakota Dunes Community Development Corporation for which he remains a board member.
He represented the FSIN Senate on the SIIT Board of Governors for about 19 years, first as Chairman from 1976 to 1978 and then a member representing both STC and the FSIN Senate. He also sat on the Saskatchewan Indian Training Assessment Group (SITAG) Board as an FSIN Senate representative from March 2001 to December 2001 and again from April 2006 to June 2012.
George was also instrumental in the founding of the Indigenous Gaming Regulations of which is he a Board Member.
We are very honored to have the many accomplishments that George has contributed to the Saskatoon Tribal Council, his home community of Yellow Quill First Nation and all of the Indigenous communities.
Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday November 17, 2023 at Acadia Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon). Wake will be Friday evening in Yellow Quill at the Community Centre. Interment to follow on Saturday November 18 at Perigord Cemetery.
