He obtained all of his schooling in Choiceland, SK and graduated in 1959. He was a member of the Air Cadets and enrolled in the Army in 1960.
He got a job working at the Pool Elevator in Pilger, SK and met the love of his life, Rose Mary in 1963 and they were married the following summer on July 21, 1964.
Gerry & Rose moved back to the family farm in 1965 and started their family, while building a dairy herd.

In 1979 he moved his family to Winnipeg, MB, to attend Red River College, where he obtained his machine drafting certificate.
After graduating he moved his family back to Saskatchewan in search of his ideal job in the drafting field.
At age 65 he retired and went back to his love of farming and fixing machinery!
Gerry had a passion for music and loved to play the accordion, but wasn’t afraid to pick up any instrument and give it a try. He loved visiting with family and friends for coffee and never declined attending a family function or good ole firepit to entertain all who attended. He was a member of the St. George’s Senior Club for the past 3 years and loved to attend their musical jams twice a month.
Together with his wife he spent 17 years at Shepard Apts. in Saskatoon and spent time as president on the tenant association board, then most recently they moved into an accessible condo with their daughter and son-in-law to help with his declining heath, until his passing on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
Gerry is lovingly remembered & survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose; his children: Len (Susan), Balgonie, SK, Patty (Larry) Holynski, Saskatoon, SK Ray (Linda), Kitchener Waterloo, ON & Calvin (Rosemary), Calgary, AB; grandchildren: Robin (Katie), Keegan (Julia), Lyndee (Rizza), Alissa, Rylan, Daniel (Arianna), Spencer, Jessica, Anthony, Cameron, Curtis, Alex, Elizabeth & Logan; great-grandchildren: Kenton, Aubrey & Eli; siblings: Dan, Red Deer, AB, Joan, Saskatoon, SK & John (Brenda), Lady Smith, BC; numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews & friends.
A Celebration of Gerry’s Life will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon, SK).
Special thank you to the Cancer Centre, Homecare and Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK.
Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Saskatoon Cancer Centre.
There will be a private family internment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Snowden, SK at a later time.
