Glenn (a.k.a. Reever, Grandpa, Verno, VG) was born February 19, 1938, in Regina. He grew up on a farm near Grenfell, Saskatchewan with sisters Kathy and Betty. After a short career with SaskPower, Glenn went to university in Saskatoon where he met his future wife, Freda. They both taught in Melville, where eldest son James was born, and then returned to Saskatoon, where they welcomed Shauna and Lach while Glenn taught history at Nutana and Evan Hardy. The Reeves were charter members of the McClure United Church and Glenn took residence at McClure Place once Freda passed in 2013.
Dad loved both softball and hockey. We spent many hours at ball tournaments and hockey rinks across Saskatchewan and other provinces as we followed dad’s coaching “career” or played ourselves. Dad’s leadership and passion for softball led him to his position as President of Softball Canada. This was one of many other sports related opportunities and honors in his lifetime, including his appointment as a committee member with the Canadian Olympic Association (COA), and Chef de Mission for the 1995 Pan American Games.
Besides keeping busy as a sports fan, Dad had many pastimes over the years. He was proud of his grandchildren, and happy to watch them play softball, soccer, hockey and piano. He enjoyed browsing newspapers from across North America, especially when planning one of the many road trips that were taken in retirement. He especially loved sitting on the deck in the sunshine with a cowboy hat, a cold one, and country music in the background.
We would like to acknowledge the care Dad received at Keedwell Assisted Living Centre from Myrna and Dalton Varga, and staff. His McClure community and the special friendship he shared with Jean Warner also sustained him in recent years.
Glenn was predeceased by his wife Freda. He is survived by his sisters Kathy Reeve, and Betty (Bryan) Clark; his children James (Trish), Shauna (Ted) Tilbury, and Lachlan (Kim); and his grandchildren Ryan, Jordin, McGinnis, Curran, and Natalie.
To honour Glenn’s memory, check out a local bookstore, have a snooze with a cat, watch a game at Glenn Reeve Fields, or donate to Parkinson Canada.
