1930 - 2012
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Gwen Dingwall on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Gwen was the seventh child born to Alexander and Lillian Heuser. She grew up on the farm, studying piano and attending the Melaval, SK school until the end of Grade 11. For Grade 12, she was fortunate to attend the Marquis, SK two-room school where her older sister, Lillian Mitchell, was the grade 8 – 12 teacher. Gwen also taught piano to several students in Marquis. Recently her youngest grandchildren were still benefiting from her gift of music. Following graduation with a high academic standing, Gwen was accepted into the Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing. During this time, she met the love of her life, Stewart Dingwall, who was attending St. Andrew’s College. Gwen and Stew were married in 1953 and she continued working as assistant head nurse at City Hospital. Always thoughtful and willing to lend a hand, she was a great aid and companion to Stewart in his various pastoral charges. She was a most gracious hostess. For many years Gwen shared her love of music by contributing as organist for McKague’s Funeral Chapel as well as for various churches in the city. Throughout the time leading up to and following her kidney transplant (1986), her attitude, courage, faith and strength of spirit inspired everyone. Gwen treasured her family, and her church community of friends. She was radiant and full of life. Always ready for a cup of tea and good conversation; she had caring eyes and a warm smile that made you feel you were the most important person in the room. Gwen, you have blessed all the lives of those you have touched with your huge heart and abundant love. You truly are a special angel and will be deeply missed. Left to mourn are her two daughters: Janet Wilson and her children, Cara, J.R. and Jodi; Karen Stewart; son, Sheldon (Julie) Dingwall and their children, Christiana, Evangelina and Thomas; two special nieces, Thedra Hunt (Bernie Slogotski) and their son Ryan (Geri-Lynne) and their children Ethan, Elisabeth and Payton; Janice (Ben) Partyka and their daughters Lesia (Dr. Allan Murray) and Brendine; a special nephew, Bill (Linda) Hunt; sisters, Olive Wilson and Lillian Mitchell; brothers, Neil (Edith) Heuser and Alec (Evelyn) Heuser. Gwen was predeceased by her husband, Rev. N. Stewart Dingwall; son-in-law, Dr. Daniel E. Wilson; grandson, Mark Wilson; sisters, Grace Richardson and Iva Schneider; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The family graciously acknowledges Dr. Baltzan and Dr. Martens for their wonderful care. Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Saskatchewan Branch (1 – 2217 Hanselman Court Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8), or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. The celebration of a life most wonderfully lived will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 10:30 am at Grace-Westminster United Church (505 – 10th Street East) with the Rev. Daryl Woods officiating. A private family interment will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Tammy Ferrier, Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Chapel (955-1600).
