Helena Eda Kary, 85, passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of her family on January 3, 2023, at the Hospice at Glengarda, Saskatoon, SK. Born on January 31, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Selzler) Kary of Allan SK. She is also predeceased by siblings, Edwin (Penny) Kary, William (Bill), and Jacob (Jack) Kary, along with numerous aunts, uncles & cousins.
She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her siblings, Wilfred (Cathy) Kary, twin sister Eileen Dengler, Lillian Schmidt, Armella Frenette, and sister-in-law Nicole Kary. Godchildren, Louella Gieselman, Sheila van der Breggen and Lavaunne Loewn.
Helena was raised on the farm in Allan with her siblings and in 1942 the family moved into town. She was part of a big family, which inherently was a big job that she loved. In 1956 she went to Saskatoon and took a sewing course, becoming an accomplished seamstress. She could mend anything, move any zipper, and restyle any garment that needed to fit better. She also made slipcovers and curtains & clothes like the best of professionals. She tried working at a job away from home but got homesick. She returned home to live with her parents. It was her destiny. Helena was a helper extraordinaire and never hesitated even at a moment’s notice to lend a hand, cook, clean, wash, paint, sew or babysit. She was involved in her community and was a long-standing Catholic Women’s League member. For Helena, there were two things, her devout faith in God and her family. Simple. She owned it. Quite frankly, she was indispensable. She always had something to do, somewhere to go, joyfully, happily, and very hard to keep up with. Her family expanded as her siblings married, she acquired nineteen nieces and nephews. She bestowed more than enough love to last a lifetime. She was a very special daughter, sister, and auntie by her own choice and involvement. Helena was and always will be especially lovingly endeared by her entire family.
The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff at both St. Paul's Hospital and the Hospice at Glengarda for their kindness, compassion, and support provided to Helena and the family during this time.
