Ira Francis Grover

Ira was born in Neil’s Harbour, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on January 29, 1948, to Catherine and Hugh Grover. Ira joined the Black Watch in 1966 and served for three years in Canada, Germany, and Cypress. He returned to Nova Scotia for a few years and then journeyed through much of Canada, living in several provinces before ultimately making Saskatchewan his home. It was in Saskatoon he met his wife Cheryl and they were married December 17, 1983.

Ira was a true jack of all trades, but his heart found its home behind the wheel. After earning his Class 1A, he discovered his passion driving Super-Bees across the long stretches between Ontario and British Columbia. He cherished the simple joy of going to Robin’s Donuts, enjoying a coffee and sharing in conversation, and could spend hours talking about fishing.

Ira will be lovingly remembered by wife, Cheryl; children: Raylene (Fred), Mark (Mandy), Tanya (Mike), Nathan (Amanda) and Josh (Kristine); his grandchildren: Zachary, Julia and Logan; his brothers: Leo (Mary-Claire) and Nick (Maureen); mother-in-law: Nora; sisters-in-law: Christine, Angela, Bonnie, Marlene (Bruce), Val (Ash); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ira was predeceased by his parents: Hugh and Cassie; brothers: Bernie, Melvin, Brian; sister; Mary-Frances; granddaughter, Sage; and father-in-law, Tom.

As per Ira's wishes, there will be no funeral. A Private Immediate Family Interment will be held. A Come and Go Tea in Celebration of Ira's Life will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Lounge, located at 210 Wess Road, on Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ira's memory may be made through the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, Canadian Cancer Society, and Lung Association.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who walked beside us throughout the dementia journey. Your kindness, patience, and unwavering support brought comfort and strength during the most challenging times, and we are deeply grateful for the love and care you shared. We especially wish to thank the dedicated staff at Porteous Lodge for the respect and compassionate care they gave to Ira in the last few months of his life, it will always be appreciated. We would also like to thank the staff at St. Paul's Hospital, whose compassion and professionalism made a profound difference in the last hours of Ira's life.
