It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the death of Irene Ruth Martins in Saskatoon on Friday, October 7, 2022 at the age of 91 years. She was born to Ruth and John Berg on July 13, 1931 at the family farm near Hallonquist, Saskatchewan. Irene attended Wiwa View School until the family moved to a farm near Bateman. Following graduation from Bateman School in 1950, she attended Moose Jaw Normal School and began her teaching career at Wood Dale, a one room country school near Lafleche. She later taught school in Woodrow. In the fall of 1959 she married Kenneth Bradley. They farmed in the Woodrow area until 1978 when they moved to Moose Jaw. They enjoyed the Woodrow community life, especially attending dances with special friends Shirley and Maurice Filson. Irene and Ken spent winters in Texas and travelled to countries such as Australia and Israel and in western Europe. Ken died in 1986. In December 1987 Irene married Peter Martins. They made their home in Saskatoon but spent winters in Mesa, Arizona and for 20 years, summers at Anglin Lake. They also loved to travel going to China and Europe and traveling by motor home to eastern Canada and Alaska.
Irene, the perfectionist, enjoyed flower gardening, needlework, ceramics and for 30 years spent thousands of hours creating beautiful porcelain dolls and sewing intricate doll dresses. She was a loyal and longtime member of the United Church of Canada and the Order of the Eastern Star.
