Irv was born on the family dairy farm near Asquith, SK. He attended Hawoods School, a 1 room schoolhouse 1-1/2 miles from the farm, sometimes walking, sometimes on a horse. His schooling ended at grade 8, then it was full time on the farm.
It was said of Irv that he loved anything with a steering wheel. He longed for the open road and took his first truck driving job hauling milk at the age of 17. His lifelong career as a truck driver had begun.
Swervin’- Irvine as he was known, travelled more than one million miles, mostly on 18 wheelers all over North America, carrying various freight. As well, he drove tour bus in the U.S.A and Canada for several years. Irv drove professionally for just over 50 years, retiring to Wakaw.
In 1961 Irv married Dianne Unger (d 2017) and they had their daughters Sandy & Shaune.
Irv had a great sense of humour and an infectious laugh. If he was telling you a story, there would be a punch line at the end or maybe a lesson. He liked to cook, he liked to dance, he prided himself on being neat and make a good impression wherever he went. He liked to show up on time, do a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay and have a few laughs along the way.
A private family service will be at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
