Jean passed away peacefully at Stensrud Lodge on Monday, February 21, 2022. She had family by her side, listening to the song, ”Can I Have This Dance” a favourite for her and Norris. Jean was born on January 7, 1925 at the Smith Brothers Farm in the Allan Hills District. She married Norris Poole in 1946 and they started their family while living in Saskatoon. Their next home was on a farm near Zelma. After the farm, they moved to Zelma and in 1968 built their new home in Colonsay where they both resided until 2003.
Jean and Norris raised a family of six, two boys and four girls. Family trips and family gatherings were a big part of their lives. Jean loved to cook and bake for everyone. She was well known for her homemade grandma buns, her potato salad, fried chicken and of course her pies! Over the years she made hundreds of pies of every kind. She took great pride in her cooking, her baking, her house and her yard. A favourite pastime for Jean and Norris was dancing. Danceland at Manitou was a place they loved. Her greatest joy was family and she truly missed all of her family time in her house in Colonsay. At any time, day or night, she would have a cup of tea or coffee ready for you and lend an ear to whatever you felt like sharing.
In 2004, Jean moved to a private care home in Saskatoon and in 2011 to Stensrud Lodge. She loved any family visits, receiving pictures, cards or flowers. She cherished her memories. Now, Mom can rest in peace and join Dad in that last dance.
Jean was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Norris Poole; her granddaughter, Lorie Breckner; her daughters, Colleen Beggs and Konnie Hadvick; her son Doug Poole; and daughter-in-law Bonnie Poole. She will be greatly missed by her son Murray Poole; daughters Dianne (Dave) Breckner; Joanne (Bruce) Helmkay; daughter-in-law Barb Poole; sons-in-law Bryan (Elsie) Beggs and John Hadvick, her 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the Stensrud staff who made mom feel loved and comfortable. A very special thank you to Rahel, who Mom called her special angel.
A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held at a later date with a family gathering to share the memories. Arrangements in care of Travis Minor.
Our Family Chain
We little knew that morning
That God would call your name.
In life we loved you dearly;
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
