November 8, 1917 - January 3, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our treasured big brother and uncle. Patty was born on November 8, 1917 to Norwegian parents Tom and Anna Remmen. The eldest of eight children, Patty grew up on the family farm in the Sunny Valley School District east of Hanley. He attended school until the age of 16 when he quit to work on the farm. In 1942 Patty joined the RCAF as an aircraft electrician and was stationed in Nova Scotia at a large aircraft repair depot until the end of the war. After discharge, he went to Lloydminster to work in the oilfields and spent ten years looking after wells in oilfield production and working on drilling rigs. In 1956 he went to work for Dowell of Canada as a mechanic in charge of high pressure pumping equipment used in fracturing and acidizing oil well formations. After retirement in 1983, Patty traveled and spent extended periods of time in B.C. and Hanley, eventually settling in Saskatoon. Patty took his role as big brother very seriously and kept close tabs on the goings-on in the lives of his four brothers and three sisters. In time he extended that watch to the families of his siblings, and then to the families of his nieces and nephews. Patty was dearly loved and is fondly remembered by his family: brothers Rolf and Punch; sister Lillie; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Anna Remmen; brother Torger and sister-in-law Bertha; sister Stella and brother-in-law Sveinung Trulsrud; niece Anne Archibald; brother-in-law Harold Schultz; brother Ivar and sister-in-law Irene; sister Marie and brother-in-law Cliff Doncaster; and sister-in-law Helen Remmen. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Lutheran Riverside Terrace’s Care Home and Sherbrooke’s Veteran’s Village for the excellent care they provided to Patty in the past year. At Patty’s request a Private Graveside Service will be held at the Sunny Valley Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Patty’s memory may be made to the Sunny Valley Cemetery fund c/o Hanley Lutheran Church, Hanley, SK S0G 2E0, or to a charity of your choice.
