John was born to John and Dorothy Rogers in Trenton, ON and died at St. Paul’s Hospital after several months of poor health. A top athlete in track and field, hockey and soccer he was named to Ontario Provincial Team in 1967 and was on the wrestling team for the U of S. Athletic pursuits were curtailed by a life long battle with psoriatic arthritis. Scott enjoyed hunting and being outdoors.
He moved around Canada as the son of an air force senior NCO. Served 3 years in the 20th Armored Regiment Canadian Army. He worked for the city of Moose Jaw in the 1970s which he fondly remembered. He received a PHD in 1984 from the U of S in Mineralogy and was one the first graduates of the toxicology program. Then he spent three years at Cal Berkley doing post doc work for the USA government. He came back to Canada and worked at the U of A. He moved to La Ronge and taught for 12 years at Northlands College Chemtech and Geotech diploma program to northerners, allowing them to start at middle management in the mining industry of which he was proud.
For years he was head of the La Ronge Civilian Air Search and Rescue. While in La Ronge Scott instructed teenagers in snowmobile safety for the provincial snowmobile safety association. He served 10 terms as off campus lecturer for the U of S and the U of R Chemistry departments teaching inorganic and organic chemistry. Scott valued family and friends above all else.
He will be missed for his sly and dry wit. Survived by his mother Dorothy; sisters Diane, Susan and brother Andrew. He never complained but lived each day to the fullest. A Celebration of Life for John will be held on Monday September 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street). Arrangements entrusted to Aime Laventure.
