Dad (John) was born on the family farm near Big River Saskatchewan March 19, 1937. He spent time on the farm but then the family moved to Rosthern. As a young man, he moved to Saskatoon looking for work, which he was always able to find. Dad was a farm hand near Elrose SK when met his future wife Phyllis Baker. They married in May of 1959 and started a family in 1960.
With 4 kids in tow, the family moved to Niagara Falls where dad just missed being hired to work with a brother and two brothers in-law at the GM plant. Wasn’t long and John was hired on at Canada Post where he spent the next 27 years delivering mail.
In 1980 the family then moved back home to Saskatoon. As he continued delivering mail and raising a family, he was always doing something for someone else. Whether that was teaching kids how to play baseball and hockey or ringing the bells at Christmas time for the Salvation Army. He was also a Moose Lodge member for over 26 years, giving of his time to various charities or organizations.
He retired from the post office in 1995 and has enjoyed being very social as he was always busy from being the night Front desk clerk at a couple hotels in Saskatoon to working the late shift at a gas station. Dad was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a coach, a mentor and teacher. He cherished the last few years going to hockey and baseball games and travelling to visit friends and family.
Remembered always by daughter Rhonda, sons Randy, Richard, Russell (Debbie), grandchildren Michael (Della), Keegan (Madison Toombs), Caitlin (Joe Villeneuve), Kirsten Holst (Austin), Alexandra, Victoria and Andie Feist (Ryan Lange), great grandchildren Raiden, Asher, Mac, Shealee and Presley. Special daughter in-law Heather Zacharias. Pre-deceased by wife Phyllis July 30, 1939 – May 24, 2021.
