It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father Joseph “Joe” Simon on April 13, 2021 at RUH from a cardiac condition. Joe will be forever loved and sorely missed by his loving daughters Joann (Grant) Douziech, and Marge, step-children Fred (Angie) Buburuz, Elma Wilcox, and extended family and dear friends. Joe was predeceased by his brother Jim, his parents Elizabeth and Joseph, infant daughter Joanne, and his wife Doris. Dad was born on November 3, 1935 in Kapuvar, Hungary. Joe immigrated to Canada in 1956. He met Doris on August 13, 1958 where she was the cook for his CPR Bridge and Building crew. Dad was proud to work as a tinsmith for CP Rail for 34 years. The decorative tinwork on the roof of the CP Rail Station in downtown Saskatoon serves as an example of his work. He was self-taught in building, plumbing, heating, and basic home repairs. He and his wife Doris built a cabin at Jackfish Lake in 1972 that was enjoyed for 42 years. Joe enjoyed making sausage and smoking it in the smoker that he built. Joe raised fancy pigeons and pheasants. He loved gardening and he was adept at grafting various varieties of fruit trees. Dad was a private man who rarely showed his emotions, but he never forgot a kindness that had been shown to him, and in his last months, he was frequently heard saying, “You’re doing a good job.” Dad will be remembered for his love for his family, his work ethic, his sense of humor, determination, generosity, hospitality and his independent spirit which he retained until his passing. We give thanks to the wonderful staff at the Bentley where Dad lived for the past three years, and to the team of Unit 6200 RUH for their compassionate care. A Private Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Live-streaming will be available at: www.aspenfilms.ca/mg Joe will be laid to rest beside his wife Doris. Arrangements entrusted to Aimé Laventure - Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
