Kay Eyre

Its with sadness and a sense of loss that we announce the passing of Kay Eyre (nee Jaworski), of Saskatoon, on August 30, 2010. She was born in July of 1916 on a farm near Ituna, SK, where she grew up. Predeceased by her husband Tom, in 1980, her sisters Anne and Emily, her brothers Leo and Mike, and her daughter-in-law Brenda, she worked in her beloved shop -the Kayrose Beauty Salon -for 46 years to the very day she suffered a heart attack, in January of 1999, then about a month later, a massive stroke that took her speech and mobility. She's survived by her three sons: Arnold (Joan) of Ottawa, Ivan (Brenda) of Winnipeg, and Wayne (Sigrid) of Saskatoon; five grandchildren (Sharon, Bradley, Keven, Tyrone, and Bronwyn) and four greatgrandchildren (Christopher, Gavan, Vivian, and Maximilian). Kay set up business in 1953 and had hundreds of Saskatoon women as customers and friends over the decades. She was a veritable institution, known for her independence of spirit and self-reliance. For all her feistiness, however, she gave generously to many charities. She was a reader of many books, a formidable crossworder and Scrabble player, a capable investor, a committed Reformer, a regular patron of Gateway Players, and a longtime supporter of the Saskatoon Symphony, attending its performances since the 1950s. She relished the sights, sounds, and smells of nature. She loved to drive into the country to hear the frogs and see the crocuses, and she kept her house, lawn, and yard in excellent trim. Her qualities of hard work, conscientiousness, and service were exemplary. May she rest in peace after life's work well done. The family expresses its deep gratitude to the administration and staff of Circle Drive Special Care Home for its warmth, care, and professionalism with Kay, who took up residence there in August of 1999. Warm thanks, too, to both Dorcas Oleskiw and Eleanor Beaumont, for their loving attentions. Service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 4 at Acadia-McKague's Funeral Centre, 915 Acadia Dr., 955-1600.
