January 22, 1929 – December 13, 2016
With heavy hearts and joy for a life well lived we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and dear friend Ken Meyer at Keedwell Assisted Living. He was predeceased by Lil, his wife of 59 years. He is survived by his children Karen Macdonald and Lois (Wes) Mierau; grandchildren Ryan Mierau and Lee (Carrie) Mierau; and great-grandchildren Sierra and Ethan Mierau and Aven Mierau. He was also predeceased his parents Peter and Theresa Meyer; and brothers Herman, Fritz, Sylvester and Alvin “Lefty”. Dad was born in Bruno, SK to Peter and Theresa Meyer. He was the youngest of five boys. On June 13, 1950 he married his childhood friend Lil Ludwig. They were blessed with two daughters Karen and Lois. They moved to Saskatoon in 1963. Because of his outgoing personality and love of people he excelled at his career in sales with Bruno Coop, B.F. Goodrich, Carlton Cards and running his own business Custom Coffee. Dad was an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years. He was an active member of Council 5104 being Past Grand Knight and holding several Executive positions. After his retirement he managed the Knights of Columbus Hall from 1986 to 1994. Dad was an avid curler travelling the province and successfully competing in bonspiels. He continued to curl twice weekly into his eighties. Mom and Dad had a cabin at Wakaw Lake where you could usually find Dad fishing or tinkering on something. They enjoyed time spent with family and friends at the cabin. He also loved dancing and playing cards. Dad and Mom spent many weekends partying with friends. He was always there for us, whether it was helping Wes and Lois on their acreage or fixing something at Karen's while dog sitting; he loved to help. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to all of the staff at Keedwell Assisted Living and in particular to Myrna and Dalton Varga for the kind, compassionate care they showed Dad and all of his family members. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada (2-706 Duchess St. Saskatoon, SK S7K 0R3) in memory of Ken Meyer. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church (217 Lenore Dr.) in Saskatoon. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200
