It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear dad, husband and grandpa Kenneth (Ken) John Welder on August 13th, 2024 after 80 full years. He was surrounded by all of his children, wife and other family. Songs were sung, stories were told, and we know dad felt comfort and guidance from all of us to help him pass on.
He is survived by his wife Sheila Welder, children Kris (Kirby) Wright, Chantelle (Eric) Haugen and Curtis (Carman) Welder. Grandchildren Dallas, Wyatt, Austin, Garrett, Colby, Maverick and Cascadea. Also included are his son's step children Morgan ( Carl ), Colby and Jorga, and two great grandchildren Winslow and Iylah.
He is also beloved by Sheila’s children, Beverly, Laurie, Wayne, Gary ( Lori ) and Tammy as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who considered him grandpa Ken.
Dad was born on May 9th, 1944. He lived his childhood and early years on the farm in Allan SK. He married our mom Marian on June 10th, 1967 and had three children together. They stayed on the farm for a few years and then moved to the city of Saskatoon. While in Saskatoon, dad had many truck driving jobs throughout the years, tow truck, dump truck, bread truck, he could drive anything! Mom and dad also enjoyed many trips to the United States, always somehow ending up in Vegas, their happy place!
Once mom passed away after 40 years of marriage, dad hung up the truck keys and retired. He then was very fortunate to meet Sheila. They spent 15 years together, dancing, traveling, enjoying children and grandchildren, playing cards and just enjoying each other's company. I know their love for each other was very strong and genuine and Sheila will miss dad very much.
Dad loved to putter, he would make bird houses, signs, garden decorations for his family of which many showed his clever sense of humour. He loved to be busy and spend time in his garage and workshop in Leoville. He built a gazebo for Sheila where they would sit and watch the butterflies together.
This is what we know about our dad, he was always a kind, positive and helpful person with a sense of humour that could make anyone crack a smile. If you asked anyone that knew Ken Welder, they would say “oh I know Ken, what a nice man”, and they weren’t wrong. He was “Salt of the Earth”, take the shirt off his back for anyone and everyone. As kids, he coached our baseball teams, hockey teams and cheered us on at anything we wanted to do. He never failed to tell us how he felt about us and how proud he was of each of us. We will miss our conversations with our dad when we would solve all of the world's problems in an hour!
A small graveside service will be held for immediate family at a later date as per dads wishes.
In lieu of flowers, if you care to do so a donation can be made to sasklegion.ca in support of veterans in Saskatchewan.
Arrangements entrusted to Ryan Lensen.
