Leon Edward Hannotte

Born to Mary and John Hannotte in 1952 at Shellbrook, Leon spent his early childhood on the family farm in Forgan. The family later moved to Foam Lake, where he completed high school and met the love of his life, Carol (nee Osborne), his wife of 49 years.

Leon attended Notre Dame College, earning his B.A. in 1973 while playing junior hockey for the Hounds. An intelligent man with an insatiable curiosity, he pursued higher education, obtaining an M.A. from the University of Manitoba and later a PhD in Religious Studies from McMaster University in Hamilton.

Longing to return home to Saskatchewan, Leon, Carol, and their children Jennifer and Jill, moved to Saskatoon in 1989, eventually settling on their beloved acreage. Leon channeled his extensive education into the business he both loved and loathed: TLC Painting. His proudest accomplishment over 30 years of running the business with Carol was the opportunity to mentor numerous employees, both on and off the job site.

Leon was the life of any gathering, his love for music shining through as he played guitar or piano whenever there was one around. He entertained crowds with ease, loved to debate, yet his favorite moments were spent alone in the bush, cutting wood on a crisp, calm, sunny day with his dog Max. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Willa and Beatrix, going on coffee and doughnut dates whenever there was a chance.

Though he is no longer with us, Leon's memory lives on in the hearts of his many friends and family who cherished his embellished stories and infectious laughter. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Jenn and Jill, granddaughters Willa and Beatrix, sister Adele Jensen (Hugh), brothers Al (Char) and Laverne (Marianne), Sister-in-law Ronaele Gibson (Ron), and Brothers-in-law, Brad Osborne (Adonica) and Scott Osborne, Aunt Marie Hannotte and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Leon’s life will be held in the spring.
