The Gilchrist family announces the peaceful passing of Lloyd “Dutch” Alexander Gilchrist on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Luther Special Care Home in Saskatoon. Left to remember and celebrate his life are: his wife Arvella of Saskatoon; his son: Randy (Karen) Gilchrist of Calgary; his daughter: Jan Gilchrist of Winnipeg; his sons: Kelly (Sandra) Gilchrist of Saskatoon and Dale (Verdynne) Gilchrist of Estevan; grandchildren: Benjamin (Tanya) Gilchrist, Steven (Lisa) Gilchrist, Christopher (Lauren) Gilchrist, Leah (Trenton) Gilchrist; great grandchildren: Justina and Zorianna Gilchrist, Bree and Macy Gilchrist, James and Elouise Gilchrist, Joshua Gilchrist-Bell and Nicholas Alford; brothers: his twin Floyd “Scotty” (Shirley) Gilchrist and Jim Gilchrist; sisters-in-law: Lee Gilchrist and Elaine Gray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents: William and Verda Gilchrist; siblings: Ruth (Robert), “Bud” (Gertie), Laverne (Ila), Bill; sister-in-law: Carol; grandson: Geoffrey Gilchrist.
Dutch grew up in Corinne, Saskatchewan. He married Arvella Gray in 1952 and together they raised four children. Dutch bought grain for over 40 years, the last 25 as a buyer/manager for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Torquay. He enjoyed volunteering as a firefighter, served on the Credit Union Board and spent time coaching sports teams. He had a keen interest in genealogy and spent many hours researching his family history. He and Arvella loved to square dance. They toured across Saskatchewan and the United States, including Hawaii, dancing and making treasured friends. Dutch and Arvella spent their retirement years travelling and visiting family. They spent close to ten winters in Arizona.
A Celebration of Dutch’s Life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday October 2, 2023 at Acadia Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon) with Pastor Heather Anderson officiating.
