Lorraine was predeceased by her parents (Evelyn and Otto Dressler) and her brothers (Ted and Linden Dressler). She is survived by her husband (Dennis), her children (Tamara and Stefan), daughter-in-law (Christine), grandchildren (Chayce, Teagan and Parker) and her sisters-in-law (Margaret and Gloria).
Lorraine was the third child of Evelyn and Otto Dressler born on May 3, 1946 in the Yorkton hospital. She grew up in Churchbridge. Her parents separated when she was a child and she was raised by her mother, who was a school teacher. Her mother taught in a succession of rural schools. One year Lorraine was taught by her mother, Evelyn Dressler in the Dressler school. Two years of her high school education were taken at Concordia College in Edmonton.
After completing her high school education, Lorraine obtained a diploma in business administration from the Saskatoon Business College. She then worked in administrative roles with the Canadian Wildlife Service and the Medical Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at the University of Saskatchewan.
In 1968 Lorraine married Dennis Kendel who was a medical student at the University of Saskatchewan. She supported Dennis until he graduated in 1971 and commenced his internship at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. In 1971 Lorraine and Dennis had their first child and in 1974 their second child. Once their first child was born, Lorraine decided to be a full-time mother and discontinued her employment at the U of S.
In addition to her time commitments to her two children, Tamara and Stefan, Lorraine did volunteer work with her church and the community. She also became a very accomplished artist working with both oil and alcohol ink.
Lorraine and Dennis were married for 56 years. They enjoyed international travels and visited many countries around the world. The COVID epidemic halted their travels. In October 2023 Lorraine was diagnosed as having pancreatic cancer. She faithfully followed a chemotherapy regime to control the malignancy.
Dennis was able to provide supportive care to Lorraine at home until July 2, 2024. She was admitted
to St. Paul’s Hospital on Tuesday July 2, 2024 and died in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s on Saturday July 6, 2024.
She is now in heaven
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday July 12, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church (2801 Preston Avenue South Saskatoon).
