Lorraine Josephine Stewart, 90, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on November 7. 2024 at St. Paul's Hospital. Born December 15, 1933 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan Lorraine was the oldest of 3 children of George Edward Blouin (1901-1987) and Violet Mary Blouin (1911-1992). In 1949, the family moved to Saskatoon where her father went on to build the Colonial Auto Court on 8th Street East and the first motel in Saskatoon, the Eastview Motel where the family resided. After Lorraine graduated from Sion High School in 1952, she worked as a Chambermaid alongside her mother Violet until she married in 1954. After being a devoted stay-at-home mom, Lorraine went into business in 1970 when she owned and operated the Avalon Confectionary. She sold her business in 1975 and became a Ward Clerk at the University Hospital which was no surprise to anyone since Lorraine always wanted to be a nurse. In 1977, Lorraine remarried and moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta. In 1982, she moved to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan to be with her beloved aunt Lillian (Auntie Sis) until 1985 when she moved back to Saskatoon to care for her parents. Lorraine loved people and was always the life of the party. She loved to entertain and was known to throw a great bash. People gravitated to her warm easy-going nature, inviting smile and wonderful sense of humor. Even in the most trying of times she laughed easily at the silliest things. She was a loyal and loving friend, mother and grandmother. Lorraine loved the great outdoors and was her happiest on bright, sunny and hot days. She loved the printed word and had an insatiable appetite for all things related to politics. Books, magazines and newspapers were her passion. She was a voracious reader who passed her love of reading onto her children. She was a stickler for proper etiquette and had impeccable manners. In her younger years, Lorraine was very active in curling and speedskating. And she put the "power" in powerwalking. No one could keep up with her. She was forever snapping photos of her children, her beloved dog Jacques and her beautiful rose bushes. In her later years, she enjoyed knitting and made the most beautiful afghans for friends and family. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren in Calgary. While Lorraine longed to be a 'snowbird' and travel family commitments kept her tied to Saskatoon when she became her younger brother Eddie's caregiver. Lorraine never wavered in her compassion for others. Her legacy was one of unyielding kindness and generosity. Even when sick or in pain she never faltered in caring for her brother Eddie more than she did for herself. Her life served as a testament to her philosophy that there is always someone worse off than you. She was a giver, never a victim and always a survivor. She will be sadly missed. Lorraine is survived by her younger brother Edward (Eddie) Blouin of Saskatoon, her son Ken(Debie) Babey of Calgary, her daughter Sheila Babey of Edmonton, four grandchildren Beverley Babey of Edmonton, TJ(Janine) Babey of Hawaii, Joe Babey of Calgary, Jaclyn Babey of Calgary and 3 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter Sherry Babey (1990), her younger sister Sheila Walker (2013) and her beloved niece Kathie Peterson (2018). The family would like to thank the staff at St Ann's Seniors Home for their friendship and support to Lorraine over the years while she cared for her younger brother Eddie. A special thank you to St. Paul's Hospital for the warm and gentle care they provided our mother at the end of her life. No service by request. In lieu of flowers the family would welcome you to make a donation to St. Ann’s Seniors Village.
