Margaret Elizabeth Marie (Kobelsky) Impey of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital on February 8, 2022. Our Wife, Mother, Grandma and many things too many other people was born on Boxing Day 1949 to Nicholas and Teresa Kobelsky in Wilkie, Saskatchewan. She was one of 11 children who grew up on the family farm North-West of Landis, Saskatchewan. Margaret spent some time living in North Battleford where she met the love of her life, Myles Impey. They married after 5 years of dating on August 29, 1975 and they soon after bought our home where they resided until her untimely passing.
Their first daughter, Myra Impey was born in June 1978 and Mandrell (Impey) Knihniski soon came along in May 1980. Margaret was an amazing stay-at-home wife and Mother for 9 years, often found volunteering at the school, gardening, baking and looking after everything that needed to be done to give us the best life possible. Great memories were made when Mom bowled Tuesday mornings in the earlier years and her team won a ladies trip to Las Vegas. Mom and Dad also did some travelling including Carribbean and Alaskan Cruises, trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Mount Rushmore and the four of us made a trip together to Mexico in January 2015. Mom drove school bus for 28 years and took great pride in her job and when she was finished driving chose to stay with the company to be a monitor for special needs children.
Mom gained a passion for watching sports… starting with watching Mandrell play baseball when she was a kid. She loved watching the grandsons play hockey and lacrosse; watching curling on TV and especially enjoyed watching the Riders beat the Blue Bombers…which she prayed in the stadium for the Rider’s to win. She travelled to Las Vegas to watch a curling tournament and had a great time. After that, she spent a whole week at Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon watching another curling tournament, enjoying every minute.
Mom was so excited to become a grandma when Hunter was born in November 2005… even though she didn’t think she wanted to be in the delivery room, she admitted afterward, that she was truly glad she was there. She was also happy that he was born in time so that she could still go and do her morning bus run and meet up with her coffee friends to share the good news. Grandson Parker was born in September 2011 and Grandson Lincoln completed Mom’s collection of grandsons in February 2016. Mom was always so very proud of her grandsons and spoiled them accordingly. We think she maybe enjoyed being a grandma more than being a mom.
She enjoyed going for coffee with her bus driver friends after her morning runs and this continued even after she retired. She was the organizer of the Dancing With the Stars pool on coffee row and could tell you everyone’s score at any time. Mom loved visiting and, of course, talking on the phone. We miss calling her on our way home from work just to talk.
Margaret is survived by her Husband Myles Impey, Daughters Myra Impey (Shawn Mayers) of Saskatoon, Mandrell (Impey) Knihniski (Christopher) of Calgary, Alberta, Grandsons Hunter Mayers, Parker Mayers and Lincoln Knihniski, Step-Granddaughter Brooklyn Haworth.
