November 4, 1932 - August 2, 2021
Margaret "Maggie" Leith Robertson died on August 2, 2021 with her children by
her side after a brief battle with cancer.
Maggie was born in Saskatoon on November 4, 1932 to Alexander and Bella
Leith. In April 1947, she met her first and last love, Donald Robertson, on the
baseball field at King George School. In her words, they were crazy about each
other. They married on September 15, 1951 and had an epic love story
spanning the next 65 years that included a close-knit family of five generations,
starting a successful family market garden (Robertson Valley Farm) and
traveling the world.
Family was one of Maggie's proudest accomplishment. From raising four kids in
a 660 ft2 house, to having over 20 people calling her gramma (her spelling) or
"the great one" (her chosen name), her greatest wish was that her family had
the same opportunities she had or better. She loved all those who married into
the family as if they were her own and was incredibly proud of the life partners
her children and grandchildren chose. In 2019, Maggie fulfilled a wish of Don's
and a request from her grandchildren and documented the family's history. This
is one of her greatest gifts to her family and tells the stories of all she overcame
to become the successful woman we all love.
Despite entering the work world with little formal training after 17 years as a
stay-at-home mom, Maggie built an impressive career with positions at Peter
Richie Law Office, Royal Trust and Colliers McClocklin. While working full time,
Maggie and Don started a market garden that became a staple on Valley Road.
She retired from Colliers McClocklin at the age of 80 and channelled her
endless energy into spending time with family, volunteer work, continuing
education, tending her yard, and movie and dinner dates with close friends. In
2018, she was awarded Corman Park Citizen of the Year.
Maggie loved to travel. In her early years, this included bus trips to take the kids
camping at Waskesiu. In later years, trips spanned across the globe. Portugal
was a favourite destination of Maggie and Don's, and in October 2017 she
rented a villa and invited the family to join her. She was eagerly awaiting the
removal of COVID travel restrictions to take a postponed trip to Germany.
Maggie is loving remembered by her children and their partners: Don Jr. (Joan),
Kevin (Leslie), Daryl (Kathy) and Leslie Sigurdson (Darcy); grandchildren and
partners: Claire (Peter), Ian (Celina), Jennifer (Troy), Michael (Kendra), Nick
(Sasha), Rachel (Mike), Amy (Chris) and Katie (Dustin); her sister and brotherin
law Fran and Mel, and many great- and great-great grandchildren. She is
predeceased by her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Don, brother
Stan, sister Belle, and great-great-grandson Porter.
The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to her friends who
have been by her side since Don's passing. We would also like to thank the
medical team who cared for her in her final days.
A private memorial service and interment will be held at St. Stephen's Merrill
Church. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 8 at 3pm at Moon Lake
Golf and Country Club. The family encourages Maggie's extended family and
friends to join us to celebrate her life and share in our memories. In keeping
