Marguerite Lillian Ashby was born on December 8, 1923 in Burton-on-Trent, England. Her family emigrated to Canada in 1934 and settled in Swift Current where she completed her education.
Mom’s first job was at the Christie Grant’s Department Store and then at the Unemployment Commission. Her career moved her into accounting and various jobs lead her to be the controller at Manning Mercury, Century Motors, and then to her favourite employer, Ed Look Pontiac Buick.
Marg’s first marriage on June 3, 1944 was to Daniel Horning (1928 - 1972). They lived in Swift Current, then Kamsack, Estevan and finally back to Swift Current where Dad worked at Safeway and then sold real estate. Their children, Lorne (1951) and Danna (1956) were born in Swift Current. Mom was an active member of the Legion and the Lady Lions.
Mom married Lloyd “Blackie” Tisdale (1917 - 1986) on June 8, 1974 and they enjoyed a great life together working and travelling all over North America. With the marriage, Mom gained two wonderful stepchildren – Bob and Maureen.
After Lloyd passed away, Mom got together with Ray Prime (1918-2002), a retired farmer from Kyle. Mom and Ray had great adventures to Europe, including the 50th Anniversary of D-Day – Ray had been a tank commander in the invasion.
In 2012, Mom moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family and resided at Preston Park Retirement home where she lived until 2024, when she moved into the wonderful Samaritan Place. As Mom’s health faded over the last two years, her life was supported daily by her devoted daughter, Danna.
Marg loved her family and community and was the cherished heart of it all. It is hard to imagine a world without her.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Edith Ashby, her brother Dr. Roy Ashby of Vancouver, husband’s Daniel (1972), Lloyd (1986), and Ray (1998) and son-in-law Bill (2024). She is survived by her devoted children, Danna Horning and Lorne Horning, her stepchildren, Bob (Sharon) Tisdale of St. Albert, AB, and Maureen Zaparnuk of Moose Jaw, her grandchildren Lorne Jr., Nicole, Matthew, Janelle, and Brittany (Tony) and two great-granddaughters, Kaiya and Aubrey.
The family is planning a Memorial Service and Burial in Swift Current in May.
