Marilyn was born in St. Walburg, Saskatchewan, the fourth child of William and Irene Neuberger. As a young woman, she loved playing softball with her sisters, and that spirit of fun and loyalty carried on into her lifelong love of the Blue Jays.
In 1962, she met and married Larry Sackney. Together they made their home in Saskatoon, where they raised their three children: Janet, Dean, and Linda.
Marilyn was a devoted member of her church and the Catholic Women’s League. She gave her time generously, volunteering at the clothing depot for many years, including well into her retirement.
She showed her love in so many ways. She loved sewing and made many pajamas and blankets for her grandchildren. She was known for her baking, especially her famous buns and lemon pie. Her macaroni salad was a family favorite, and it is a recipe that lives on in her children and grandchildren.
She also loved playing cards, from crib to rumoli, and those games created many cherished memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren over the years.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, William and Irene Neuberger; her husband, Larry Sackney; her daughter, Linda Sackney; her sisters, Madeline Shatilla, Jean Desilets, and Joan Medernach; and her brother, Leonard Neuberger.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Janet and son-in-law Boi Nguyen, and their sons Kalvin, Kyle and his wife Sam and their daughter Addison, and Shaun and his partner Kasey; her son Dean and his partner Rhonda; her grandchildren Nova and her husband Joseph and their children Kitana and Edgar, Ashton and her partner Brad, Destiny and her husband Bryce and their children Caden and Chloe, Jessica and her partner Josh and their son Rowan, Brittany and Ryan, and grandsons Patrick and Matthew; her sister Bernice Hillyers; her sister-in-law Linda Neuberger; her brother-in-law Emmet Medernach; and countless nieces and nephews.
Thank you to everyone who visited and spent time with Marilyn in her final moments, where she was surrounded by the love and warmth of many.
Mom, we love you very much. You will always be in our hearts and forever be our guardian angel. Your strength lives on in the lives of the countless people you loved, who loved you, and who were touched by your kindness throughout your years.
