Mark was born on May 9, 1960, in Leoville, Saskatchewan, to his parent of Lydia Teskey (nee Lowery) and lived in Leoville until his early twenties. Mark moved to Prince Albert in the early 1980’s to live in a personal group home run by Jacquie Taylor until Mark’s passing.
Mark’s 40+ years living with his caregiver, family, and other residences was his family and felt very comfortable in his home. Mark often said that Jacquie was a great cook and he enjoyed her company and friendship. All of Mark’s family are very appreciative and thankful to Jacquie for bringing Mark into her family as her own; words can never express ourselves enough. Mark was able to be himself in his home and loved being with his new family as he received the opportunity to manage his mental health in a caring and stable environment.
Mark Teskey will be lovingly remembered as someone who deeply cherished his hometown and the many friends and family who were part of his life. His connection to his community was strong, and the people around him meant everything to him.
Some of Mark’s happiest memories were simple ones—like going to Chitek Lake for ice cream. He fondly recalled days when his mom would take Mark and his nieces to the lake on a tractor and wagon, spending the day swimming, laughing, and enjoying picnics together. Those moments reflected the joy Mark found in family time and being outdoors.
Mark was more than an uncle to his nephews and nieces; he was a playmate being of the same age. We often would spend time in Leoville, running along the railway tracks, chasing each other and finding snakes. Mark would spend time in Neeb, Saskatchewan, with his sister Myrtle and Doug, playing with David, Danny, and Karen Crouch. Mark talked about helping David and Iris on their farm and he told me he sometimes was not much help, as he laughed. Mark spoke fondly of his great nephews Christopher and Jason, David and Iris’s sons.
Mark also spent many meaningful days at Uncle Hank and Auntie Esther’s farm, where he loved being with his cousins Neil, Garth, and Dell. These times were special to him and remained close to his heart.
A gifted artist, Mark had a lifelong love of trains and grain elevators, themes that were beautifully reflected in his paintings. He took great pride in his artwork and generously shared it with everyone he knew. Through bold colours and thoughtful detail, Mark expressed his feelings and his view of the world.
Mark was also a devoted fan of the Raiders hockey team and proudly gifted them some of his paintings—something that brought him great happiness and pride.
Mark’s warmth, creativity, and love for family, friends, and community will be deeply missed. His memories live on through his art, his stories, and the many lives he touched.
Mark leaves to cherish his memory: his brother, Richard Teskey (Regina, SK); niece Colleen and nephew Michael; nephew David (Iris) Crouch (Neeb, SK); great nephews Christopher (Amanda), Jaxon & Luke Crouch (Edmonton, AB); Jason (Marci) Crouch (Neeb, SK); Danny Crouch; Karen Patemen (Maidstone, SK); G.
