Martin was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha Viola Schroeder and his eldest daughter, Darlene Sylvia Wiens.
He is survived by his second wife, Lydia Peters and he will be sadly missed by his daughters Alice and Karen, as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepchildren.
As a teacher, he began in a one-room school, teaching grades I - XII. He worked his way up to his dream of being a Superintendent of Schools and then joined the Faculty of Education at UBC.
He loved singing and was involved in many choirs, notably the Gospel Tidings Radio Choir in Saskatoon and the Men of Praise and Jubilee choirs in Abbotsford.
He was a member of Gideons International and was responsible for the distribution of New Testaments in elementary schools.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Acadia-McKagues Funeral Centre, 915 Acadia Dr., Saskatoon, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011.
