Michaeline (Mickey) A. Chilliak passed away on November 15, 2012 at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home in her 96th year. Mom was born to Stephan and Mary Warick on Nov. 21, 1915 on the farm at Dana, Sk. She is survived by her daughter Joyce (Al) Diemert and son Ron, grandchildren David and Diane Diemert, sister Pauline Galgan, sisters and brothers-in-law Emilie Warick, Toni Chilliak, Steve Cheliak, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving husband Mike of 66 years of marriage, sister Helen and husband Mike Hrynewich, brothers Mike and wife Rosie, Joe, Felix and wife Lena, John and wives Marie and Elfrieda, and brother-in-law Tony Galgan; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law Harry and Bernice Chilliak, John and Mary Shelak, Dmytro and Annie Chilliak, Fred Chilliak, Mary and Fred Demko, Ann and John Ross, Ann Cheliak. Michaeline lived on her parents farm, went to school in Dana and later married Mike in 1934. They farmed in the Prud’homme district until 1945, and then purchased a general store and Case agency in partnership with Dmytro Chilliak. Mom worked at the store, as well as being the cashier for the local movie theatre. In 1953 they moved to Saskatoon where she worked in the yard goods department for 13 ½ years until retirement at 65 years. Buckwold’s called her back and she worked for an additional 3 years. Mickey enjoyed her garden and generously shared its produce to family and friends. She also was a sewer and quilter and loved to make baby quilts for all the newborn grandchildren of her nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00 pm and Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 21 at 1:00 pm. Both services will be at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral (214 Ave. M So.); celebrated by Very Rev. Janko Kolosnjaji. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Thank you to the staff at Saskatoon Convalescent Home for the care and attention to our Mother. Arrangements are entrusted to Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre.
