It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Marguerite (Mahoney) BUSCH. Pat was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, and was raised south of Admiral on the farm of her parents Jerry and Marguerite Mahoney. She attended Horse Creek School, followed by high school in Shaunavon. She went on to Normal School in Regina at the age of sixteen. Upon graduating from Teachers College, Pat taught at St. Clair School in Simmie area, and Fischman south of St. Boswells. Pat met Arthur Busch, on the train, while travelling out to Fischman School. Pat and Art were married, in Gravelbourg, on February 13, 1948. They lived, and farmed, in various locations in the St. Boswells and Bateman areas, and eventually moved into Hodgeville. Having taken a break from teaching, but still subbing, Pat began teaching part-time at Hodgeville Elementary, retiring in 1983. She then took Independent Studies through University of Saskatchewan, while spending three years as a volunteer tutor for the CH Regional College. In 1994, Pat received her Bachelor of Education from U of S.
Pat and Art, together, raised five children: Jerry, Rita, Garth, Natalie, and Todd. Very involved community members, Pat was a member of the Hodgeville Royal Purple, RC Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Lutheran Ladies (Trinity and Salem Lutheran Church), Hodgeville Seniors Club, among others. Pat moved to Saskatoon in 2009 to be closer to family, and enjoyed her new community in the Legion Manor apartment for fourteen years.
Pat had a strong dedication to education and lifelong learning. An avid reader and historian, she also enjoyed gardening, cards, volunteering; but most of all, time spent with family. Time with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was most precious. Having been an only child, Pat immersed herself in the larger Busch family, and had special relationships with all the nieces, nephews, cousins, etc.
She was a surrogate “mom” for many. She lived her faith quietly and personally. A lover of pets, small and large. She was a humble mentor, and friend to all.
Pat is predeceased by husband Arthur, son Jeremiah, parents Jeremiah and Marguerite Mahoney, parents-in-law John and Kate Busch, son-in-law Dwight Telford. Art’s sisters and brothers, and spouses, as well as cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pat is survived by children: Rita (Red), Garth (Louise), Natalie (Neal), and Todd (Deb). Grandchildren: Brad (Chelle), Brent, Jody (John), Michelle (Darren), and Rhett. Great-grandchildren: Logan, Sydney, Georgia, Declan, and Macy. As well as sister-in-law Winnie Busch. The Busch family wishes to express gratitude to Mary and Jason Reed for their friendship and kindness to Pat over the past ten months at Stensrud Lodge.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 1, 2024 at the Hodgeville Community Centre (Main Street in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan).
In memory of Patricia, donations may be made to Hodgeville Cemetery Fund, Nutana Legion Manor Operating Fund, or Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
