Paul passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances (Strilkiwski); children Mary, Charles (Brenda Bishop Machibroda), Ray (Darlene) and Robert; grandchildren Jasmine, Jerome, Kyle, Abby, Jarett, Patrick, Evan, Nolan; and sister Christina Humeniuk. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Anne (Manchur), his sister Olga, brother John, half-brother Peter of Toronto, and a half-sister in the Ukraine. Paul was born and grew up on a farm located near Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. He attended St. Joseph’s High School in Yorkton and later the University of Saskatchewan, earning a degree in Civil Engineering in 1960. Following graduation Paul worked with, and was mentored by, Ben Torchinsky. In 1977 Paul founded P. Machibroda Engineering Ltd. where he continued to work until last November when his illness started to slow him down. We are grateful to everyone who supported him through this time, especially Ruth-Anne Austin, Dr. Ed Nykiforuk, Dr. Bosch and Dr. “Awesome” El-Sayed, the Sisters and nurses of St. Joseph Home and his nurses at RUH. Paul will be remembered for his sharp mind and loyal friendships. He faced life and death with grace and openness. He said his good-byes with courage and love. His family is deeply grateful for the gift of his life and we will continue to learn from his examples. The Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015 and the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015. Both services will be held at Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church (Corner of 10th St East and Munroe Ave South). Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery – Catholic Section.
