Mr. Paul Nykiforuk

On July 13, 1956, Paul met Virginia Zadorozny at a dance in Hafford. The next day, he drove 30 miles just to see her again and that was the start of 68 years together. They married exactly one year later, on July 13, 1957. Their first child, Shirley, arrived on their first anniversary, followed by Larry eleven months later and then Valerie.

Paul and Virginia farmed side by side, raised their children, and built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and community. They shared countless trips, family gatherings, and friendships that lasted a lifetime.

After retiring, they stayed on the home quarter for several years before moving to Saskatoon in 2003 to be closer to family. Their time in the city was filled with church activities, kaiser games, and visits with loved ones and whenever you saw one of them, the other wasn’t far behind.

In 2010, they faced the heartbreaking loss of their son Larry, a loss that left a deep mark on their hearts.

Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also a proud farmer, singer, dancer, hunter, fisherman, and kaiser player — a man of steady faith and simple joys who never strayed far from his roots.

He passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital with his family at his side, at the age of 96.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Sam and Nellie Nykiforuk; son Larry Nykiforuk; brother Andrew (Louise) Nykiforuk; and in-laws Orest Reshetnyk, Mike and Elsie Zadorozny, Walter Zadorozny, and Moris Degutis.

He is survived by his loving wife Virginia; daughters Valerie Nykiforuk (Eldon Wilkinson) and Shirley Markowsky; grandchildren Adam Markowsky, Jackie Markowsky, and Rhonda Best (Dustin Grenier); great-grandsons Kingston and Gabriel; his sisters Mary Nykiforuk and Natalie Reshetnyk; sisters-in-law Rose Marie Zadorozny and Nadia Degutis; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 24, 2025, at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 2616 Louise Street, Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of choice.
