Raquel is survived by her only child, Russell, (Debrah) and only grandchild, Antony. Raquel has two surviving siblings, Lydia Llentada from Saskatoon, and Antonio Llentada Jr (Myrna) in Buguey, Cagayan, Philippines, along with nieces and nephews. Sister Melly’s children: Clyde De Pedro in Manila, Cheryle Zarate (Mark) in Vancouver, Celina Thompson (Peter) in Alabama, Jong De Pedro in Saskatoon, brother Junior’s children: Myranne Purto (Mitz) in Africa, Shirleen Pastores (Jomar) in the Middle East and Hansel John Llentada (Bujyoy) in the Middle East. Raquel is survived by numerous great nieces and nephews and distant relatives.
Raquel immigrated from Buguey, Cagayan, Philippines in 1977. Raquel lived a life of service to many women in and around her hometown of Buguey, working as a midwife. Raquel was a true leader in the community. Raquel was also a mother. A mother of a son, Russell, whom she always tried her best for and was very proud of his accomplishments in life.
Raquel was also a daughter and a sister and was predeceased by her parents Antonio Llentada and Flaviana Tabuzo along with two sisters and brother-in-law, Melly De Pedro and husband Celestino De Pedro, and Nora Llentada.
Raquel was able to show both her sister Melly and her mother, Flaviana the country and her home in Saskatoon to which she had immigrated. Both Melly and Flaviana met many of Raquel’s numerous friends and enjoyed trips to Banff and Lake Louise.
In Saskatoon, Raquel put her previous medical experience and knowledge to work helping people at Frank Eliason and at Parkridge Centres. Through the years, Raquel gained many loyal and long standing friends. Raquel generously helped many people over the years, often assisting Filipinos who recently came to Saskatoon to find housing and work. Helping them to obtain furniture and clothes and other essentials to make their new life in Saskatoon more comfortable. Raquel was also instrumental in assisting her niece Cheryle and nephew Jong and his family with getting them set up for a successful and happy life in Saskatoon. Despite numerous conversations with Mom about moving to Calgary, she chose to stay in Saskatoon, as “Saskatoon is Home, and where her friends are”.
Raquel was a true Matriarch, a Humanitarian, a Compassionate and Caring person, always ready to help others.
Raquel’s love of food and social events were sources of joy for her. Everyone was always offered snacks, a meal, or something she had just specially made, and she often made the statement, once you had tasted the dish, “it’s good, isn’t it”. This always brought a chuckle. The apartment was often filled with people enjoying the food, the laughter, and companionship.
Russell and Debrah would like to thank all of those who helped make Raquel’s life joyful. Also, we would like to thank those people who, over the years, helped Raquel achieve her goals of helping others. They include (but are not limited to) Conrado, who helped many people find work as well as her numerous contacts at various department stores and in the Hotels. We would also like to thank those that helped make Raquel's last years and days as pleasant for her as could be, including (but not limited to) Arbour Villa Staff, including Pricilla, Rhoda and Tisa, we would especially like to thank Agnes for keeping Mom at Arbour Villa until the end even though she required a lot more assistance than the home normally provided. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses and aides at Royal University Hospital, and Melly, a good friend of Raquel’s. Melly shared Raquel’s special trip to San Francisco to enjoy crab at Fisherman’s Warf. Melly was a consistent friend, visitor and caring helper for Raquel especially in her final years and days. Thank you.
