Raymond H. Olson passed away September 13, 2014 at Sherbrooke Veteran’s Village, Saskatoon, SK. Ray was predeceased by: wife Marguerite, parents Olia and Anna, three brothers, and five sisters. Ray grew up on a farm east of Kenaston, SK. He joined the Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. After the war, Ray married Marguerite McAvoy and together they raised four children in the Kenaston area. Ray managed a hotel in Meadow Lake in 1971. There, he decided that he preferred the hotel business to farming and in 1971 he purchased the Laird Hotel. He retired to Saskatoon in 1984. He lived alone briefly after Marguerite’s death in 1993, but ultimately resided in Sherbrooke Veteran’s Village. He was a hard worker, but to relax he loved a good story and to visit with people. An avid musician, Ray loved playing his violin and saxophone and singing. A sad day was the day that he could no longer play his saxophone. However, that didn’t stop him from enjoying music. Ray is survived by his children: Brenda, Jim (Tammy, and Cody Wall d.2009), Darryl, and Lori Bell (Cliff, Jamie, and Kit), and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Sherbooke Veteran’s Village for the kindness, friendship and excellent care that Ray had received the past six years. A celebration of his life will be held on September 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Sherbrooke Community Centre (401 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, SK). In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be sent to Sherbrooke Veteran’s Village. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chelsea Krentz of Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre.
