It is with profound sadness that we mark the passing of Ron Rogal. He passed away peacefully at home with Jean (Edwards) by his side. Ron will be deeply missed as his kindness, humor and generosity touched so many.
Ron was born on May 14, 1933, to Dr. Peter and Mrs. Dorothy Rogal in Winnipeg, MB. He grew up in Milden, SK. Ron married while working in Cranberry Portage and later moved to Regina then Saskatoon to raise his family. Ron met Jean in 1998 and was warmly welcomed into her large family.
Ron worked as an accountant throughout his career. He never really retired and was the manager of a small resource company and did taxes for family and friends until his passing.
Ron enjoyed collecting tokens, medals, trade tokens, souvenir coins and advertising items. He said it reminded him of small-town life as he was growing up in Milden. He took great pride in sharing these with his long-standing coin buddies from around Canada and the US. He was very involved in the Saskatoon Coin Club, and catalogued Saskatchewan tokens for the group.
Ron spent many happy hours in his yard growing a large, beautiful crop of tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots. He had a yard full of lilies, with many unique and colourful varieties coming up year after year.
Ron was an avid golfer and often golfed two or three times a week throughout the summer. He enjoyed the social aspect of golfing more than anything but still managed to shoot in the 40’s for 9 holes several times last year.
Ron and Jean traveled extensively, from the east to the west coast and from Alaska to California. They even had the chance to attend NASCAR races in Las Vegas! They enjoyed golfing together, watching sports, attending car races, working in their garden and most importantly, spending time with family.
Ron is survived by his partner Jean Edwards, his son Scott (Suim) of Bahrain, Dawn (Derick) of Saskatoon and Paul (Pat) of Saskatoon. Ron also leaves his grandchildren Emily (Cowan) and Mitchell (Jill), Sam and Lucas, Rosemary, and Parker. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Ray Richards and his cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Ron is also survived by Jean’s children Lori (Greg) of Saskatoon, Jeff of Osler, Patricia (Tim) of Regina and their children and grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Joan Richards (Ray) of Vancouver and Pat Rogal of Toronto.
A Celebration of the Life of Ron will be held on Saturday April 20, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be a short program at 2:00 p.m. To be held at McClure United Church (4025 Taylor Street East Saskatoon). All of Ron's many friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated in Ron’s memory.
