The family of Ronald Parish Sproule is saddened to announce his passing on January 25, 2023. He was 98 years old. He lived 66 of those years in Watson, Saskatchewan. He was the son of Herman and Bessie Sproule and brother to Lloyd, Gerry (Gourlay) and Finn. (Baseball, Hockey, and girls were his biggest past times.) At 18 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy to fight in WWII. He served 2 years. Upon his return home he helped his dad in their service station. (Which explains his antique car and car washing obsessions.) A pretty, new-in-town, school teacher named June caught his eye….. And he was smitten! Once he obtained the position of Postmaster in 1950, he proposed to June and they were married in August of 1951. Dad knew the importance of supporting his community. He became well respected for his hard work and his willingness to step in and do what needed to be done. The list of organizations he worked with is amazing: the Chamber of Commerce; Legion; Masons; Lions; Town Council; School Board; 4-H as an instructor; Coach and player of Senior Hockey and Baseball; Coach of minor Hockey and Baseball; Golf Course Executive and Elder of Watson United Church. In winter, Dad could be found at the rink, and in spring, summer, and fall… the golf course. And then… there was the hobby ranch south of Watson with his beloved horses. He was a great father. We loved: his bedtime stories; his piggyback rides; his showing up to watch concerts and games; his whistling as he made porridge in the morning. He was always a presence in our lives. By his example, we learned about courage, kindness, tenacity (he did cheer for the Leafs, Blue Jays, and Roughriders), right from wrong, appreciation for what is given to us and to respect others and earn our own respect… and above all… the need for humor in our lives (he was a great teaser). In 1990, he and Mom moved to Vancouver Island, where he continued his community activism and hobbies. His favourite new hobby… picking up Tim Hortons, parking at their favourite spot to see mountains, ocean and boat launches. Dad is survived by and missed by his Wife of 71 years, June, and his children; Ronda Sproule, Jill Breker (Paul Anderson), Evan (Michelle) Breker, Isaac; Pamela (Terry) Yaremko, FR Michael Yaremko, Dr. Brent (Sarah) Yaremko, Jordan, Benjamin, Oscar, Wren, Hilary June Hart (Brandon McFarlane), Kelly (Mark) Regier, Wade (Ashley) Regier, Everette, Camille (Derrick) Oberhofer, Henrik, Stefan, Amelia; Keon Sproule (Jody Fulcher), Connor Sproule (Lauren Slavik), Natashia Fulcher Gagnon-Yanko (Andrew), Felix, Farrow, Jesse Fulcher Gagnon (Taegan O’Bertos), Anna Fulcher Gagnon (Dax Friesen), Bronson, Mia. Dad is predeceased by his great-grandson Owen. In Lieu of flowers, Dad and the family would be grateful if you would make a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion Watson Branch. Memorial service to be held at Acadia McKague’s Funeral Chapel on Saturday February 4th at 2:00pm (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon, SK 306.955.1600)
