With broken hearts the family of Sherry Duncan Paterson announce her death after a brief and devastating illness. Sherry passed away at Royal University Hospital, surrounded by love, on February 3rd at 8:35am.
Daughter of John & Trudy Duncan, Sherry was born on January 26th 1958, in Saskatoon. The oldest of 3 children, she spent her childhood growing up in Gladmer Park, which she always spoke fondly of. Her family then moved to College Park, and Sherry attended Evan Hardy Collegiate, where she made a few special and life long friends.
Sherry went on to get her degree in social work, and pursued a career working with vulnerable youth. During that time Sherry met Bob, the love of her life. They married in 1990 and had two beautiful daughters, Erin and Lindsay. In 1992, Sherry fell ill, and ultimately received a heart double lung transplant which saved her life.
After the transplant, Sherry was unable to work, so she made the most of her life. She used her time to raise her daughters, spending summers at the cabin in Wadin Bay, volunteering with various organizations, and being a passionate health and patient advocate. She competed across the country in the Canadian Transplant Games, bringing home medals, and making friends along the way. In recent years Sherry enjoyed summers at the lake with her grandchildren, and winter months being a snowbird in Yuma, Arizona with Bob. Sherry thrived in Yuma; making friends, joining the lapidary club, playing poker, going to Mexico for margaritas and everything in between. While Sherry loved traveling and visited many places, it didn’t matter what the destination was, as long as she had Bob as her co-pilot.
Sherry was a gentle soul, loving all things nature and art, and was vehemently protective of the things she loved. Most of all, she loved being a Gramma/Mama to her 4 grandchildren. She has a unique bond with each of them, and all 4 of them absolutely adored her.
Sherry is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert “Bob” Paterson; daughters, Erin Turcotte and Lindsay Bueckert; Son-in-law's Daniel Turcotte and Tyler Bueckert; grandchildren, Hadley & Robert “Robbie” Turcotte and Jackson & Amelia Bueckert; sister Laurie (Mark) Haykowsky; brother Jeff (Mary-Lou) Duncan; her sister-in-laws, nieces, nephew, and many friends who are like family to her.
We are so lucky to have had as many years with Sherry as we did, and while we wish there was more, we will deeply cherish what we had and continue on her memory in all things we do.
Sherry's family would like to thank her amazing team of transplant doctors, various specialists, pharmacists, and nurses who provided her with stellar care over the last 34 years. We would also like to thank the nurses at RUH for providing care at the end of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on February 28th 2026 in Saskatoon at Acadia Funeral Chapel, located at 915 Acadia Dr., followed by a celebration at Bob & Sherry’s home. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider donating to the Saskatchewan Transplant Program at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon.
