He is survived by his children Val, Bob (Diane), Tom (Shelley) and daughter-in-law Betty (Steve Jr), grandchildren Randy (Kim), Annette (Jeff), Brett, Adam, and Brianna; great grandchildren Karissa, Skylar, Rainer, Ava and Violet. He is also survived by his brother, Matt and extended family in Canada and Hungary. Steve was predeceased by his wife Emma (Palfy) and son Stephen John; parents Paul and Rosalia (Petscists); four brothers Imre, Martin, Frank, and John; and baby sister Francesca.
Our dad (who we affectionately called “pop” after Steve Jr. shortened papa) came to Canada in 1955 from Kimle, Hungary where he learned his trade of machinist and welder.
Pop met our mother Emmy at the Hungarian Hall dances in Saskatoon. They married in 1957, lived in Rosetown for a year, then moved to Saskatoon for the remainder of their lives.
A very hard worker and not one to sit for very long, pop finally opened City Iron Works in 1974, which was taken over by his three sons after he retired. As well as nature walks, pop loved gardening, reading, and playing and wrestling with the kids when they were young. He was also an enthusiastic biker and even rode his motorcycle to work in his late 50s.
Sweet, kind, good humoured, a loyal friend and companion, always willing to help others, honest and highly principled, we are proud and blessed to have had Stephan Paul Farkas as our father.
