Ted succumbed to a combination of overwhelming health issues, after a hard fought courageous battle, with his family by his side.
Ted Taras Nahorniak was born on January 8, 1930. As a boy, he attended Gursyn School until grade 9, when he decided to leave school. In 1945, at the age of 15, Ted was the best man for his sister Olga. After grade 9, Ted decided to join his brother Fred in Vancouver, where together they made guitars.
In 1954 Ted came back home to Saskatchewan, and worked for the city of Saskatoon as a gravel truck driver. Between 1954 and 1957 Ted’s spare time was taken up by working on his parent’s farm near Vonda, where he helped with milking cows, helping his mother in the garden, and working in the field with a team of horses.
In 1957 Ted met Sophie Procyshyn at Pretoria school, and they became sweethearts. In the following year, on February 14, 1958 Ted proposed to Sophie and shortly afterwards, on July 12, 1958 they were married. Together they raised four wonderful sons.
Ted lived in Spruce Home, with his youngest son Cory, but now resided in Aberdeen. In his retirement he spent many, many long days in his garden. He helped Cory where he could, with chores and farming. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and many trips to his garden where he enjoyed the most. One of dad’s life’s passions was playing his guitar. Ted was predeceased by his wife Sophie in 2002. Ted leaves behind his four sons, Lyle and (Laurie) sons Brock (Emily) and Kendall (Chantal) their daughters Emmersyn and Brielle, daughter Charnelle; Terry and (Muriel) son Kyle and daughter Holly; Mark, his partner Ken step-daughters Meika and Ranelle; Cory and (Cari) daughters Gracie and Lilly. Two brothers Walter Nahorniak of Vonda and Maurice Nahorniak of Saskatoon.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Vonda, SK with Rev. Father Andre Lalach the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Vonda Cemetery, after which the family asks that everyone please join them for a hot lunch and fellowship at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Vonda.
