Terry was born in Cawood, Yorkshire, England in 1944 and immigrated to Canada as a small child with his mother Marjorie, a war bride. They arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax and travelled by train across Canada to Saskatchewan, ultimately meeting up with his father, Harold. Terry grew up in Rosetown where he and his father shared an interest in model trains and a coin collection.
Terry began a career with Canada Post in Rosetown, following in his Postmaster father’s footsteps. Terry then transferred to Saskatoon where he met his wife, Sandra. Together, they moved to Fanny Bay, BC on Vancouver Island and then Powell River on the Sunshine Coast. Terry and Sandra shared a love of animals and spoiled their various dogs and cats. Terry retired from Canada Post and for the next 15 years built a horticultural business with Sandra. They turned their love of gardening into first a greenhouse business and later a floral shop.
Terry lived for and loved collecting just about anything. He loved philately (the study and collection of postage stamps, postal history, envelopes, and related materials), but his true passion was for genealogy. He made connections with family members throughout the world and shared his family history via a Marfell family newsletter. His final quest was writing a book on the Marfell family history.
Upon retiring, Terry and Sandra spent several years RV’ing throughout western Canada and the United States.
Terry is survived by Sandra, his loving wife of 48 years; his sister Ellen Berscheid and husband Merv; nieces Michelle (Sean) and Deborah (Richard); his brother-in-law Allan Ripka and wife Fern; his brother-in-law Greg Sivertson and Sandra’s extended family.
Terry was pre-deceased by his parents Harold and Marjorie Marfell, and his sister-in-law Coleen Sivertson.
Respecting Terry’s final wishes, there will be no service held. Donations in Terry’s memory can be made to Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation at www.schfgo.com.
