It is with heavy hearts that the family of Valdine Bjornson announces her passing on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the age of 86. Valdine will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Signy Klebeck (Tim) and her children Melissa (Jeff) with great-grandsons Boyd and Blair, and Kelly Anne; daughter Bev Kowalchuk (Harvey) and her children Kelsi (Cody) and Madison (Dallon). Valdine was predeceased by her loving husband Ingi in 2018 after 57 years of marriage.
Valdine was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan and was raised on the family farm outside of Elfros. After high school Valdine trained at Saskatoon City Hospital and became a Registered Nurse. Valdine was very proud of being a City Hospital graduate.
Valdine’s entire working career was in the health care system as a Registered Nurse in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Foam Lake hospital and nursing home, Wynyard nursing home and the latter portion of her career as the Manager of Homecare in the Yorkton Region based in Foam Lake. Valdine was a determined and independent person with a strong work ethic, compassionate heart, and deep sense of family values which she instilled in her children and granddaughters. Valdine worked tirelessly fulfilling her career, providing support and opportunities for her children while maintaining a home, and supporting efforts on the farm. There were many hours spent sewing costumes for dance or figure skating, or other activities her daughters were involved in and miles out on the road to practices, camps, recitals, or competitions.
Valdine was an avid reader, who would quite often read the last chapter of a new book, just to “make sure it was worth reading from the beginning.” She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and truly loved to watch curling in person as well as on television.
Ingi and Valdine retired to Saskatoon and enjoyed travelling but especially valued the summers spent at Fishing Lake with their children, grandchildren, and later great grandsons. The time spent at the lake with her great grandsons were cherished moments and those memories will live on in all of her family.
As a life-long Registered Nurse, Valdine enjoyed several City Hospital graduate reunions. At the last reunion, she provided all the attendees with a grain heat/cooling therapy pack in the shape of a bear with the inscription, “Some people come into our lives, leave footprints in our hearts, and we will never be the same.” Although she shared this with her nursing classmates, it truly represented the importance of the people she had in her life. This inscription truly reflects the impacts Valdine had on those who knew her.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate care they provided. Special thanks to Dr. Johnson, and nurses Kara and Wendy. At Valdine’s request, there will be no funeral.
