Verna passed away peacefully at St Paul’s Palliative Care on June 18th. She will be missed by her children Brenda (Steve), granddaughter Shantelle, and son Bruce. She will be remembered as well by her sister Fay, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Maurice (Moe) and her siblings, Edwin, May, Fred, June, Ethel and Ken.
Verna was born in Cudworth and grew up on the farm near Peterson, SK. Later the family moved to Saskatoon where Verna graduated from Nutana Collegiate and a secretarial course from Saskatoon Technical Collegiate. Verna met Moe through her work with the Air Force and they were married August 13, 1956. In 1959 she left the air force to become a homemaker and raise her family. After Moe’s death in 1983 Verna had various jobs and continued to fill her time with volunteer work. One of the places she volunteered was at the MS Society where she was later hired as office coordinator. She worked at the MS Society until her retirement.
Verna enjoyed curling, bowling, bridge, and gardening. She was an excellent baker including her famous flapper pies that she followed tradition and made in her mothers 12” pie plates. She loved and cared for her many dogs and is being especially missed now by Shadow. She was an avid Blue Jay, Rough Rider and curling fan, no one dared to phone during these games.
Her traits of determination, stubbornness and a gentle loving heart were put to good use many times through the years.
Thank-you to all the Nurses, Care Aids, and Doctors at St. Paul’s Hospital. Thank- you also, to all the staff at Home Care who were there for Verna. A special thank-you to all the family and friends who helped in this time of mourning.
