

Violet McTavish has joined her beloved husband Robert. She passed away peacefully on October 12th, 2012 at the age of 90. Vi was born in County Monaghan, Ireland on March 30th, 1922 to John and Lizzie Sanderson. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Robert (Lorraine), Wanda Marr, Bill (Karen), Cliff (Barbara) and Beth (Herb) Robertson; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sister Viva Nichols; brother-in-law Stuart (Ruth) McTavish and numerous nieces and nephews. Vi was predeceased by her husband Bob, her parents and siblings Beth, Bart, Pearl, Emma, John and Joe. She spent her early years growing up on a farm near Saskatoon. After teaching at Merrill and Grange schools, Vi met and married Robert McTavish in 1947 and became a homemaker and mother. They farmed near Asquith and in 1978, retired to the town of Asquith. She was very active in the community with UCW, 4-H and singing in the church choir. Vi enjoyed gardening, square dancing, quilting, painting and creative writing but her true passion was her family. She loved nothing more than baking chocolate chip cookies with her grandkids. After Bob’s death Vi moved to Saskatoon and then in October, 2011, she moved to Spruce Manor Care Home in Dalmeny.
The family wishes to thank all the staff of Spruce Manor for the loving care given to mom over the last year. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Asquith United Church (Box 53 Asquith, SK, S0K 0J0) or Spruce Manor (Box 190 Dalmeny, SK, S0K 1E0). The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, October 20th at 2:00 pm from the Asquith United Church, Asquith, SK with Elaine Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Eagle Creek Cemetery, Environ, SK. Arrangements in care of Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre 955-1600.
