Warren was born in Foam Lake and spent most of his childhood there with his mom Phyllis, dad George, and his two younger sisters Wendy and Pat. After his dad’s unexpected passing, the family moved to a farm outside of Quill Lake with Phyllis’ new husband Cliff. Warren stayed in the Quill Lake area through his teenage years before following his baby sister Pat to Saskatoon when she left to attend nursing school.
Once in the big city, Warren went to work for his Uncle Walter at P&H as a grain buyer. This began a fruitful, decades-long career spent prioritizing and advocating for his friends - the farmers. His greatest professional honour was taking over as manager from Walter when he retired.
Also, while in the city, Warren finally got to live out one of his dreams and earn his pilot’s license. Little did he know that when he walked into Mitchinson’s Flying Service to start his training, he would also meet his future wife, Janet, as well as many close friends in the aviation industry.
After some gentle encouragement from these friends, Janet and Warren were married in October 1984. They welcomed their first daughter, Rae Dawn, in 1988, followed by Sara in 1991. His daughters were the joy of Warren’s life.
Warren was well known for his favourite hobbies - curling, golf, camping, and fishing. He golfed from a young age through his entire life and was damn good at it too. He only accepted early morning tee times so he could get in an afternoon nap afterward and he never used a cart, preferring to walk. He was humble about his prowess but would quietly hang his best scorecards on the wall behind the bar at home so people could see if they wished.
Warren and the entire family went on countless fishing and camping trips with both sides of their extended families. Their favorites were trips up to Kenyon Lake where Warren was the master of catching, filleting, and cooking jackfish.
Warren and his family also spent many Christmas’ and February school breaks in Whitefish, Montana skiing, except for that short-lived period when he attempted snowboarding.
Warren lived a simple and relaxed, but very full, life. He passed peacefully in the middle of the night after being surrounded by his family for the entire day.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2025 at the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum (5 Hangar Road, Saskatoon). His family and friends will be sharing their close memories of him then and they welcome anyone who has a story to join and share it at that time.
