October 13, 1920 - June 3, 2014
It is with great sadness that the family mourns the passing of Minnie Funk at St. Ann's Senior Citizen's Village on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 with family by her side. We are at peace knowing that she is reunited with her beloved husband of 52 years, Marshal, who predeceased her on June 13, 2001. Minnie is survived by her sister, Ann (Frank) Berger; brother, Tony (Helen); sisters-in-law, Marian and Clara Garman; brother-in-law, Andrew Berger; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Minnie was predeceased by her parents, Magdalena (Weninger) and Michael Garman; sisters, Rose Singer, Emma Berger and Helen Zerr; brothers, Edwin (Loretta), Edward and Victor Garman and in-laws, George Singer and Joseph Zerr. Minnie was born near Allan, SK to Michael and Magdalena (Weninger) Garman on October 13, 1920, the second of nine children. She married Marshal on October 25, 1949. Minnie worked for many years at Saskatoon Hardware, where she loved to sell china and crystal and started collecting china herself by saving a part of her wages each week. Minnie was also known for her "green thumb" especially with her flower gardens. In 1972, Minnie and Marshal moved to an acreage, four miles south of Saskatoon on Clarence Avenue, where they lived for 17 years. This acreage was Minnie and Marshal's pride and joy. Later, they moved into Saskatoon and each winter they would spend two months in warmer climates, travelling extensively throughout the United States with their favourite spot being Las Vegas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Chapel at St. Ann's Home (2910 Louise St) with Monsignor Ray Senger as Celebrant. Following the reception, the Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Our very special thanks to the nurses, caregivers and entire staff at St. Ann's Senior Citizens Village for their outstanding compassion, care and kindness given to Minnie during the past ten years. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Ann's Senior Citizens Village, 2910 Louise St, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L8.
