William Mack was born in Leask, Sk. on June 9, 1931 and peacefully passed away on the morning of May 19, 2020 in Saskatoon, Sk. Bill was born from a uniquely large family of twenty two children with his twenty living siblings. He was raised in the small town of Leask, SK with no formal school education. Some of his early youth years he lived in a Toishan village of China with a few of his brothers and step mother. In his early teen years he would return back to live and work in his parent's cafe in Leask. He would briefly live in Vancouver, B.C. before moving to Saskatoon and began his successful journey into the food industry.
Bill would go onto work at the Paris Cafe for some of his uncles and friends for several years. He would sacrifice and work a lot to accumulate enough financial capital to eventually open his own cafe in the late 1960's. For twenty years he owned, operated Eastern Cafe with his wife Nancy and son David until the late 1980's before retirement. Volunteerism and giving back to others in the community was important. He served as a volunteer member of the Mack's Brotherhood which participated in the summer events including the Saskatoon Exhibition and Folkfest. In the late 1990's, Nancy sadly medically passed away before his marriage to Fay.
He was an active person who never enjoyed sitting down for long periods of time. In his teenage years he was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing sports with a few of his brothers and friends in the surrounding farming area of Leask. Bill enjoyed animals and being out in the beauty of natural wildlife. His real passion was cooking, gardening, woodworking, watching some sports and caring for his family even into his later years. He always had an active work ethic. He was a caring self educated person with a sense of humor. He was nice to everyone and gave back to others in subtle ways beyond monetary values.
