It is with profound sadness that the family announce the passing of Bob on Saturday October 8, 2022. He leaves to mourn his wife of 67 years, Shirley, children Barry and Kelly (Grant Cole) grandchildren: Deanna Stewart, Jasmine Allard, Bryan Cole (Shayla) and great grandchildren: Matthew and Jonathan Stewart. Bob was predeceased by his parents Ruby (Wheatland) and Cecil, sister Beth and her husband Jake Martens, parents-in- law Torrance and Allyson Free, brother in law Chester Free, niece Barbara Free and Mary Klotz Bob was born in Unity and married Shirley Free in 1955. They then moved to Saskatoon where dad got his degree in Education. He taught at Westmount, Sutherland, and Buena Vista. When he retired in 1991 he was at Howard Coad. A whistle or singing could be heard through the hallways. He loved the kids and they loved him back. In 1961 Barry was adopted and in 1965 Kelly came. We were fortunate enough to have the best parents ever. Lots of love, encouragement and life skills taught. Having parents with the summers and holidays off was great. Lots of camping, sightseeing and family vacations to Disney, the East Coast and seeing family. The grandkids and great grandchildren were also a blessing to dad. He loved them all. Music was a huge influence on his life. A self-taught musician who could play many instruments. Clarinet, accordion, ukulele, keyboard but mostly known for his saxophone, tenor and alto. Family sing alongs were also very popular. Dad would always be asked to lead the singing at different events. Mom and Dad and their friends traveled to Kimberly for the Accordion competition for nearly 20 years, jamming every night. Polka fests around the province were also a great time for them whether playing or just dancing. Dad played with many bands, Maymont Orchestra, Range Riders, Polka Dots, Saskatoon Polka Kings and the Saskatoon Rhythm Orchids. The last band he played with was the Saskatoon Jammers. 18 years he loved touring around with this group of senior musicians, playing for everyone. He will be missed very much and hope he is jamming with everyone again. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday October 22, 2022 at St. Martins United Church (2617 Clarence Ave South, Saskatoon) Lunch to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Bob’s memory. Thank you for your caring and support during this time of sorrow. Your thoughtfulness is appreciate and will always be remembered. Arrangements entrusted to Aime Laventure.
