June 4, 1930 - December 8, 2014
My sweetheart, Wilma, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014 at Extendicare Home with me at her bedside. Wilma was born in Clair, SK to Jack and Joyce Porter, the first child to their family. Wilma had three sisters and one brother: Francis, Bill, Barbara and Marilyn. Wilma, in her earlier years, lived in Clair with mom and dad, Jack and Joyce Porter. She took her schooling in Clair to Gr. X, and Gr. XI and XII by correspondence. Wilma then went to teachers college to become a teacher. She taught public school for five years, then taking one year at University and qualifying herself as a Home Ec teacher. Ralph and Wilma were married at Quill Lake on November 4, 1949 and this marriage lasted 65 years this past November 4, 2014. Wilma taught 24 years at Lanigan Public and High School for those years and did teach Home Ec in Saskatoon for one year at Nutana Collegiate. Wilma retired from teaching in 1979 and continued to work for her husband, Ralph, in the real estate and insurance office in Lanigan for a period of time. They loved dancing at Danceland at Manitou Beach for nearly 20 years in helping run Danceland with different owners. Wilma and Ralph enjoyed travelling - some being to Hawaii, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and cruises. Wilma was predeceased by her mom (1983); dad (1980); by her sisters Francis and Barbara. Wilma is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ralph; brother Bill (Gloria); and sister Marilyn (Cludio). There will be no service at the request of Wilma and Ralph. Wilma has been cremated at her request, with her ashes being placed in the Columbarium at St. John's Cathedral in Saskatoon. Wilma's family will celebrate her life privately at a later date. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306-978-5200)
