

MOONEY, Carol – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the age of 83. Loving wife of the late Art Mooney. Devoted mother of Allan (Robin), David (late Janet) and Marlene (Frank). Very cherished gramma of Allan Jr. (Grace), Anita, Melissa (Chris), David Jr. ( Melissa), Megan (Cory), Adam (Lisa) and Amber. Proud great gramma of MacKenzie, Sydney, Brooke, Emily, Cole, Courtney, Cameron, Cheyenne, Kendrick and Elizabeth. Special friend of Arthur Kerr. Daughter of the late William and Gertrude Simpson. Predeceased by her siblings Phyllis Thaxter, Anna Bahry, Allan Simpson, Evelyn Smith, Roger Simpson, Jewel Martin and Lawrence Simpson. Auntie Carol will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Central United Church at 11:30 am. Rev. Laurie Milito officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery where she will be reunited with her husband. Memorial donations made to the A.R.C.H. or the SAH Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
If anyone ever cared, really cared for someone else it would have to be Carol Mooney. She was a warm hearted and well liked individual, and these wonderful traits came easily to her because she was such a sociable and amiable person, someone who was always making certain that those around her had whatever they needed. Carol was a talkative person who was tactful at all times but typically said what she meant.
Carol was born on Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma District in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She was the daughter of William & Gertrude Simpson. Carol was raised in West Korah, Sault Ste Marie. During her childhood she learned to be reliable and respectful. Carol was an obedient child who wanted to win the favor of others. She found it easy to show sympathy and to perform kind acts for others. These admirable qualities would become a part of Carol's personality throughout her life.
Though Carol was frequently the one to initiate games and activities with her family, she was also quite often the family member who took the role of referee. Carol was a peace-maker with an ability to resolve all sorts of family conflicts. In fact, Carol worked conscientiously to keep those typical family spats at bay. Carol was raised with She had seven brothers & sisters. She had three older sisters, Anna, Phyllis, Evelyn, and one younger sister Jewel and 3 brothers Roger, Allan & Lawrence. Carol and her siblings had the typical rivalries while growing up, but they cared deeply for one another.
As someone who reveled in the sheer joy of her experiences, Carol was always enthusiastic about new adventures. Although she had an exacting nature, Carol was always tactful. One thing Carol will certainly be remembered for is that, when she got up in the mornings, she was ready and raring to go. As a young girl, Carol had a number of interests and was an active child. Carol took part in skating. She was a free spirit she loved to be involved in almost anything.
There was one thing that all of Carol's friends knew and will still remember, and that is that she was a talker. She could pretty much talk to anybody about anything. This quality is one of the primary reasons that Carol was such a popular person throughout her life. But Carol was also dependable, loyal and trustworthy. Carol was the kind of person who simply radiated good fellowship. While she maintained personal standards and her own personal values, Carol was very accepting of others. With a distinct skill for working things out, Carol was often the person who would organize events. In fact, Carol was fairly comfortable playing the role of “host” for just about any occasion. When Carol made friends, she made true and lasting friendships. While growing up, some of her best friends were her brothers & sisters and the few neighborhood school friends. Later in life, she became friends with her future sister in law Bro-Lee, Mel & Marian Allen, Katie Kapferr, neighbors especially Roy & Ida and their daughter Dawn and Gee Gee.
Carol was a faithful and loving person. Some would even call her sentimental and a romantic at heart. Her kindness and consideration radiated an aura of warmth to those around her. Carol cared for what others thought and carried that into her marriage. On May 10, 1946 Carol married Arthur Francis Mooney at The United Church of Canada of Sault Ste. Marie. Compassionate and devoted, Carol worked hard to make her new life partner happy.
Harmony was important to Carol and she made every effort to maintain it with her family. Carol was blessed with three children, two sons Allan and David and one daughter Marlene. They were also blessed with seven grandchildren, Allan jr., Anita, Melissa, David jr., Adam, Amber, and Megan. Carol was always conscious of the feelings others had. She was reasonable and understanding. As a result, Carol was quick to solve disputes and did so without much fuss. Her secret of success in this area was simple: Carol would listen before she would act.
Taking her work seriously came naturally to Carol, and she expected the same from those around her. Carol was a good team player, someone who was born to cooperate with others. She was what some would call a “people person” and it was demonstrated in her good communication skills. Carol was a steady worker, one who was realistic about schedules. The kind of details that would give family members and work colleagues fits were situations that Carol handled well. She could understand the details without getting lost in the broad “big picture.” Her primary occupation was wife and mother. She was employed for a few years at Krezgies. She brought harmony to her work environment, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done, while always maintaining respect for her colleagues.
A methodical woman, Carol enjoyed spending time working on her various hobbies. She had no problem following all of the steps and instructions on a given project and was proud of the fact that she could have something to show for her efforts. Her favorite pursuits were dancing, crossword puzzles and jig saw puzzles as well as other board games.
Carol was one of those people who took pride in constantly putting forth her best effort. Nowhere was that more visible than in sports. Carol was always enthusiastic and a great team player. Recreational sports included dancing, Bingo and bowling. Carol also liked being a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite teams whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list were Boxing.
Her high moral standards and traditional values served Carol well with her faith. Religion and faith were important to her. She was a member of Central United Church. During that time, she was a supporter of any fundraising activities. She was well respected because she was such an outgoing individual who sought to help in any manner she could.
Not only did Carol enjoy traveling, but she also seemed to enjoy planning all of those trips and vacations. She was a facilitator who could easily make up a near perfect schedule of all of the things to do and see. She rarely tired of going back and revisiting her favorite places. Favorite vacations included camping and fishing.
Carol passed away on August 3, 2011 at Sault Area Hospital after a short battle with a rare and devastating brain disease. She is survived by her children Allan, David and Marlene, her seven grandchildren and her ten great grandchildren. Services were held at Central United Church. Carol was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetary beside her husband in Sault Ste Marie.
Carol was a fantastic conversationalist who could engage just about anyone in a discussion. And whenever she said something, she meant it. Carol was a down to earth person, outgoing and gregarious. She was without question the type of person who enjoyed experiencing things first hand. She was practical and sensible, but what friends and family will remember her for most is the fact that she was so understanding and kind. Everyone whose life she touched will miss Carol Mooney.
